Tourist Attractions in France

Being the world's most popular tourist destinations France has dozens of major tourist attractions.
Tourist attractions in France are scattered all across the country, and every region has something special to offer to its visitors. Among the most popular tourist destinations are: ParisCôte d'Azur (the French Riviera), the Atlantic beaches, the winter sport resorts in the Alps, the castles of the Loire Valley, Brittany and Normandy, the wine districts like Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhône, the Loire Valley and Champagne.

France has a very rich cultural heritage, which dates back to thousands of years, and is world-famous for its unmatched collections of museums, amazing medieval castles and cathedrals. France also has innumerable historical and cultural attractions including some of the most amazing UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. Among top historical and cultural attractions in France are the Palace of Versailles, Louvre Museum in Paris, Fontainebleau Castle and Le Mont-Saint-Michel in Normandy.
France has numerous cities and towns of interest to travelers. Paris is of course on top of the list, but cities like BordeauxLyonNiceCannes and Aix-en-Provence are among the most visited. The remains of ancient cities of the Roman Empire are found in Orange, Arles and Nimes.

France is also world-famous for its "gastronomy", its fine restaurants and wines. It sometimes surprises visitors from outside France, that they can find top quality restaurants even in small provincial towns, and that many of these offer first-class menus at a fraction of the price one would pay for something similar in Britain or the USA. There are several directories that approve and list the top restaurants, and the most famous of these are the Michelin guide and the Gault et Millau guide. However, there is no directory that lists all the good restaurants in France, since some of these are found in the most unexpected out-of-the-way places, and while the food they offer is not "haute cuisine", it is tasty, well prepared and nourishing.

The French Museums, scattered throughout the country, are another popular tourist attraction. Among the most visited museums in the country are the Picasso Museum and the Louvre Museum, both in Paris, where paintings by Pablo Picasso and Leo da Vinci among other world famous artists are on display. The Cite de L'Espace science museum in Toulouse is also very popular among tourists.
